Senior Administration - Superintendent
Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, I came to Yellowknife in 1996 and have enjoyed many opportunities while living in the North. I have been working with Yellowknife Catholic Schools for 19 years, the last fourteen of which have been in administration, most recently as Senior Administration in Learning. I am a strong advocate for inquiry-based learning, instructional technology and building 21st-century learning skills in our students, and I am passionate about student-centered and innovative learning environments. I enjoy working with and supporting teachers through professional development, workshop facilitation and providing exposure and resources for new ideas and design thinking. I look forward to continuing to support the district in its vision of empowering our students to become independent learners and leaders, and to acquire the skills for a successful future.
Senior Administration - Assistant Superintendent of Learning
I moved here from Nova Scotia in 1985. Carmel and I have two children, who were both educated and graduated from YCS. Kathleen is now working in Halifax and Ryan is continuing at university in New Brunswick With the exception of working for the GNWT for three years, I have been employed with YCS since I moved here. During this time, I have served in many different roles, including teacher, coordinator and school principal. This is my third year as assistant superintendent.
Senior Administration - Assistant Superintendent of Business
Since moving up north in 2019, I have been delighted by the professional opportunities and animated community vibe Yellowknife has to offer. After graduating with an Accounting and Finance degree from the quiet and courteous English town of Oxford (not the University of Oxford, I wish), I completed my professional accounting designation. Since then, I have had opportunities to professionally engage in a wide range of sectors including Public Practice, Higher Education, Banking and Public Finance Administration. Right before joining YCS, I was working as Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis for the territorial government’s Department of Education, Culture and Employment. I believe common purpose, coordinated effort and sharing of ideas are keys to attaining 21st-century organizational equilibrium. On joining YCS, I look forward to collaborating with my fellow colleagues, board of trustees and other stakeholders to support YCS in meeting its vision of enabling students to have a bright and successful future ahead.
