Indigenous Language and Culture

Wılı̀ı̀deh Yatı (Wılı̀ı̀deh Language)
Wılı̀ı̀deh is this region’s dialect of Tłı̨chǫ Yatı.  (yatı = language)

All YCS schools staff and students learn and practice Wılı̀ı̀deh Yatı in a whole school approach to Indigenous Language reclamation and as an act towards reconciliation.

  • Weledeh Catholic School offers students from Grades 1-7 the choice between learning (Core) French or Wılı̀ı̀deh Yatı.
  • École St. Joseph School brings Wılı̀ı̀deh Yatı learning to students from JK-3 with a push-in model where the teacher stays to learn with their students.
  • École St. Patrick High School currently offers Wılı̀ı̀deh Yatı accredited language courses to grades 8, 9, and 10.
